The Bounty Hunter puts Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston at odds as exes who are reunited when Butler has to arrest Aniston over a traffic violation. Through many twists and turns, the couple learns much about each other in one zany adventure that is fun for moviegoers.
Romantic Comedy Shows a Different Side of Divorce
Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler make a great on-screen couple in The Bounty Hunter, a romantic comedy that brings new meaning to “battle of the exes.” Milo (Butler) is a gambling ex-cop-turned-bounty hunter who thinks he can finally cash in when he is offered $5,000 to pick up his ex-wife, bail-jumping reporter, Nichole (Aniston). However, Milo doesn’t realize that catching Nichole won’t be as easy as he thought. And he never expected to have to face the fact that he is miserable without her.
Truth in Reporting
In her zealousness for her career, Nichole has uncovered a truth that could damage the lives of several New York police officers, one of those possibly could be a close friend of Milo’s. Once her informant goes missing, Nichole must know the truth. Nichole’s quest for the truth puts her in danger more than once and makes her a target. To her disgust, she comes to rely on ex-husband Milo to help her solve a mysterious suicide, that does not seem to have been properly investigated by the authorities, and Nichole sets out to learn why. During the course of the weekend, she learns a couple of truths, one of those being that leaving Milo may not have been the best choice.
One Crazy Weekend
Milo, who sets out to bring Nichole to justice, becomes an unwilling sidekick as Nichole tries time and again to escape him and nearly succeeds more than once. In his attempts to catch her and bring her back (and collect his bounty), he follows helplessly as she tries to discover the truth. Once thrown together, the couple must come to terms with the reasons for their divorce. In one crazy Fourth of July weekend, Milo and Nichole also learn that there may be hope for their marriage after all.
While not a “blockbuster” at the box office (pulling in only $7.6 million in its opening weekend) and not as strong as Butler’s role in The Ugly Truth” or Aniston’s role in The Breakup” the film does have moments that make the viewers feel sentimental and moments that will definitely make them laugh. The Bounty Hunter is a solidly fun and funny romantic comedy.
